Inter-Religious Marriages:
An
inter-faith couple typically follows a pair of religions that teach very
different beliefs and practices about deity, humanity and the rest of the
universe. Conflicts are not easily resolved. Many people believe that their
religious beliefs were revealed by one or more Gods and/or Goddesses, and are
thus absolutely true. Further, they believe that other religions were invented
by humans and are thus lacking in validity. There is often no room to
compromise without one spouse giving up some of their belief.
The new generation of people do not realize the problems associated with
inter-religious marriage. Love marriages without social or family support either
do not last long or the girl suffers in silence. When a girl or a boy marries
from another religion, thinks only of his relationship with the girl he loves,
he goes blind and selfish. The couple never realize the problems their parents
and their siblings are going to face from the society and relatives, because of
their inter religious marrage.There are instances where the sisters or brother
remained unmarried or were forced to marry to a less deserving partner, it’s
like a mixed breed dog which has a less market value.
Imagine a Hindu girl who has been brought up with vegetarian diet and
worshipping of Hindu Gods and Goddesses from childhood, marries a Muslim or Christian
boy? Their culture and her culture will be totally different. She has to adjust
and start eating beef or other forbidden foods which she had never taken in her
life. Soon she will realize her mistake but by that time she has become a
second hand car. The dreams would soon vanish. First she has to be converted to
a Muslim then marry. In India certain Hindu male celebrities take advantage of
Muslim law and get converted to Muslim and marry another actress or model.
The parents
are totally responsible for the rise in inter-caste and inter religious marriages.
One should remember that for thousands of years certain set of rules and
guidelines have been followed by our ancestors. There must be some logic behind
it; we just can’t say its bull sit? Human beings are basically opportunistic,
they do what suits them most or in other words where money is there is love and
everything. In most cases of inter religious marriages are due to money or
celebrity factors. If any day we would read the news that Ex-president’s
daughter married an American white, then we can comment that yes ‘Americans are
really very broad minded’. Present generation of parents think their child is
still a baby, even though he or she has crossed 30 years. Unfortunately our
next generation follow the western culture as ultimate and forget own parents
and religion. Because the most of the girls have started earning they have developed a dam
care attitude towards their parents and society and have multiple boyfriends or
sex partners and get ditched.
I just
wanted to express my view on these ‘dream world’ marriages. At present the
human, character, social, cultural and moral values are in cross roads. Best is
leave the children to their own destiny to suffer or get divorced or commit
suicide or remain unmarried throughout life, choice is theirs.
