Mr.Fakir Mohan Senapati was born on this Makar Sankranti day-14th Jan.He was the pioneer in Odiya literature.To be exact he was born in1813-Jan14, at Balasore.This day is a day of good will and friendship.Traditionally it coincides with the beginning of Sun's northward journey when it enters the sign of Makar(the Capricorn)This day has a very special significance because the day and night on makar sankranti are exactly of equal hours.In Maharashtra it's called"Haldi-Kumkoo",Madhya Pradesh it's known as "SUKARAT", and South Sankrant is known as-PONGAL.In UTTARPRADESH its called"KICHERI",Punjab it's known as "LOHARI".Some states kite flying is a big festival.In Odisha it's celebrated in a mass scale mostly in the western part of the state with meat and sweets(home made-PITHA)
