Most of the Indians say “do not convert dollars to rupees when you are in USA or else you will be disappointed”.
Recently I had been to states where I had the experience of using dollars, from car parking to drinking water. Some say a dollar is like a rupee when you are in America, but let’s analyze and see how far this statement is true or false.
If some one is American and earns his salary in dollars then things are different. But an American says a ticket to US open (Tennis) is costly ($100 to $500).If we say $100=Rs100 then for two evening matches it’s quite cheap but why people say it’s costly? A bottle of mineral water(200ml) in a whole sale shop costs 14 cent but in restaurants and retail shops it’s $2.5.One mineral bottle in India cost fromRs12 to Rs16 for one liter. If one bottle costs$2.5 for 200 ml then for a liter it costs $12.5 which is equivalent to Rs12?
No, it’s not that simple. If you earn in rupees and spend in dollars then it’s a tough job.Vise versa is not true. One who purchases in rupees but earns in dollars things are pretty cheap for him or her. But reverse is not true.
A car to park for a few hours costs $10 to $14 dollars in USA. A visit to a park or garden (Longwood gardens) costs you some thing like $10 to$16 .A lock mechanic charges you $ 100 for breaking or unlocking a lock of a house. This is costly if you convert it in to rupee (Rs4100). For out side house maintenance you cough up $300 per month which varies from place to place. If you are earning in dollars then all these charges are acceptable to you but if you earn in rupees and pay these charges then you have to earnRs.5 to 10 lacks per month to maintain your house and family.
The problem or no problem one can say is that’s the rule of the game you rob me and I rob you, that’s how the economy of that country runs.
A dollar has the same purchasing capacity in USA or any where in the world but not the rupee. One dollar can fetch you half kg of best variety of apple but one rupee can’t even buy you a single apple any where in the world.
A small surgery on a dog can cost you $500 to$600 which is equivalent to Appox.Rs20 to Rs.24 thousand, Americans say it’s costly!! How come? Because of this confusion and our craze for dollars Americans take advantage of this and have started out sourcing work to Indian subcontinent.
The conclusion of my study on dollars VS Rupee is-- if you are earning in plenty ($5000) a week in India or any where then cost is immaterial to you. Once you start converting things looks very different to you, then in that case it’s better not to go out to costly countries but visit different parts of India. Our tourist spots have poor communication facilities and are not maintained, that’s the problem or else I can proudly say we have one of the best tourist places in the world. Our public transport system is excellent in India compared to other places in the world as far as cost factors are concerned.
So readers’ thank you for reading this article. I thing you will agree or not I don’t know but one dollar is not one rupee in USA and one rupee is not one dollar in India. If you are earning in rupees then dollars become costly but if you earn in dollars rupees are cheap for you. Have a nice time in USA start earning in dollars not in rupees.

A dog lover
This doctor has a soft corner for all animals but he is not an animal activist. He helps animals in his own way.He stopped killing of dogs in the Hospital campus. All these dogs rush to the car when this doctor comes for duty.Recently he saved one pup which fell in a ditch. He says dogs don't bite people who love them.

Black coffee
During a medical conference I came across a very interesting personality, a Professor of Medicine. He was as dark as a coal and not very tall. His South Indian accent English was so fast that it was difficult to follow. His students nick named him as a verbal diarrhea professor.
When I saw him in the cocktail party with a young lady, I thought she might be his daughter, helping the 70 years old Professor. Just to clear my doubts I asked my friend about this lady.
He told me "This lady is his third wife, the other two had left him or dead he was not sure."
During the drinking session I occupied a seat next to the professor and his wife. He could guess my inquisitiveness regarding the lady which he coolly clarified and introduce her to me as his wife.
I praised the lady for her beauty and asked "whether she was a south Indian?"
Professor answered after finishing off his 3rd peg- "Yes she is."
Then he added "Do you know why I preferred south Indian ladies?"
"No sir, that may be your personal choice."
Prof: "Can you tell me the similarities between black coffee and a south Indian lady?"
"No sir"
Prof: They are black- agree?
"Yes"
Prof: "Both are strong"
"Yes, I agree"
Prof: "Both keep you awake throughout the night."
"As you say,I have no experience, sir"
We had a hearty laughter after that and it was time for dinner.
I came to know about his sad demise about a year after our last meeting. He was not only a very romantic person but also a very good teacher and down to earth doctor. I don't think we will ever have such an interesting personality in API(association of physicians of India) in near future.

MASS VACCINATION PROGRAMME
Let it be made clear that the vaccination against malaria and HIV is not going to come for another 10years. It’s a very good avenue for getting sanctions for a vaccine .By that time millions might have died or living with the less virulent HIVirus. When smallpox killed millions there was no vaccine, then we had polio and so on. After twenty years or so people will laugh at us when they would realize that there was no vaccine for MALARIA and AIDS in 2007.
Millions of healthy and young people die due to road traffic accidents every year because of careless driving, drugs and speedy vehicles. Is there a vaccine for road accidents for children? With one child norm for effluent people (luckily poor produce in dozens) with plenty of money to spare have both mental and psychological problems once that child dies of accident. The child has received all 26 injections required for him/her to fight diseases before it goes to a school. Let there be a compulsory class for school students regarding road safety. Now Indian government under pressure from multinational has decided to go for vaccination for influenza!! Viruses come and go over the last few thousands of years. A new virus appear and kills millions, some are fast killers others are slow killers (HIV).
We knew only four or five virus causing hepatitis about a decade back. Now we have dozen of viruses which affect the liver. Does that mean we go on giving the new generation of people injection after injections to protect them from diseases which might not affect them!.
Instead of vaccination programmes let’s have 2 wheelers with maximum speed of forty kilometers and cars with maximum 60 -80klm/hour.Those who want to buy fast vehicles have to justify why they want it? Hardly our traffic moves at a speed of 10 to 30 kilometers per hour in cities so why these 120 and 150 klm/h filmy style two wheelers? This will save more number of young people globally than any vaccination and AIDS control programmes put together.

Jack fruits galore in Sanjoy's garden

In this picture you are able to see only 25% of the remaining jackfruits. It’s used as a vegetable when small in size (unripe). If properly cooked by expert hands it may taste like mutton curry. When full-grown it may weigh up to 10 to 25kg.The seeds are used for its medicinal properties. When ripe it becomes yellow inside. Some like to take it as vegetable and others as a fruit. If your digestive system is not perfect never try to consume a ripe jackfruit or else you may land up in a hospital or a burial ground. No care is required for this tree. A classical tropical tree found in India.
A recent photograph which taken by sanjoy in his court yard.
